During crop year 2018, some 47,678 hectares under sugar cane were harvested, yielding 3,154,516 tonnes of sugar cane and 323,406 tonnes of sugar. The corresponding figures for the year 2017 were 49,974 hectares, 3,713,331 tonnes of sugar cane and 355,213 tonnes of sugar respectively.
Production of tea (green leaf) increased by 10.2% compared to year 2017 (from 7,309 tonnes to 8,056 tonnes).
Production of food crops decreased by 9.2% (from 106,621 tonnes to 96,847 tonnes). It is to be noted that production of paddy rice dropped by 88.1% from 160 tonnes in 2017 to 19 tonnes in 2018.
Livestock production went down by 3% (from 2,740 tonnes to 2,657 tonnes) and poultry production increased by 3.2% (from 47,500 tonnes to 49,000 tonnes).
Fish production increased by 28.7% (from 22,732 tonnes to 29,255 tonnes).
