“All in all, it is conspicuous that the motion put forward by the defence is misconceived and the Court takes the view that a temporary stay of proceedings will have the effect of stringing out the present proceedings to an indefinite period. In light of the foregoing observations, the Court is of the considered opinion that the present proceedings should continue and cannot be temporarily stayed.” Les magistrats P. Sewpal et N. Parsuramen, siégeant en Cour Intermédiaire, ont ainsi statué sur la motion de Me Gavin Glover, avocat de Navin Ramgoolam, demandant que le procès de blanchiment d’argent contre l’ancien Premier ministre soit “put in abeyance and/or stayed” en attendant l’issue des deux “constitutional cases” logés en Cour Suprême pour contester la légalité des “search warrants” émis pour la saisie des Rs220 millions chez le Dr Ramgoolam. Les magistrats Sewpal et Parsuramen soulignent toutefois qu’il n’y a rien qui empêche Me Glover de faire une demande de “stay of proceedings” temporaire en Cour Suprême.
